This study aimed to verify the genetic variability of matrix trees of Caryocar brasiliense, best known by the popular name of “pequi”, in a completely random delineation, with 20 treatments (matrices), and 50 repetitions (collected fruits in each matrix). We have evaluated the following traits of each fruit: weight (g), diameter (cm), length (cm), width (cm), and thickness (cm). As results we obtained a coefficient of experimental variation (CV e (%)) that showed advantageous values of 2.82 to 7.80, and the genotype heritability (h2 g (%)) of 55 to 95; both results can indicate favorable genetic control in the traits of the fruit. At the same time certain traits have significant genotypic and phenotypic correlations, which can be understood as an advantage for the improvement of the specie. In conclusion, we have noted that the population of Caryocar brasiliense has a high genetic variation, these results support the planning for genetic improvement programs.

RESUMOEste trabalho teve como objetivo testar a hipótese de que o biochar (carvão vegetal), aplicado em conjunto com compostos orgânicos como esterco bovino, promove melhor desenvolvimento de mudas de Magonia pubescens St. Hil. O experimento foi realizado na Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso, em Nova Xavantina, MT, em 2011. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com 12 tratamentos e três repetições. Os substratos formados pelas maiores doses de esterco bovino e biochar (30%) promoveram os melhores resultados quanto aos parâmetros altura, diâmetro e biomassa aérea. No entanto, a qualidade das mudas nesses tratamentos não foi comprovada pelo Índice de Qualidade de Dickson. Também, observouse que as doses de biochar (20 e 30%), quando adicionadas isoladamente ao Latossolo, não são eficientes para as características de crescimento das mudas. Com os resultados observados, validou-se a hipótese de que substratos formados com a adição de doses de esterco bovino e biochar são eficientes para a produção de mudas de M. pubescens.

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that biochar, applied with cattle manure, promotes better development of seedlings of Magonia pubescens St. Hil. The experiment was conducted at the State University of Mato Grosso, Nova Xavantina, Brazil, in 2011. We used a completely randomized design, with twelve treatments and three replications. The substrates formed by the higher levels of cattle manure plus biochar (30%) provided better results of height, diameter and aerial biomass. However, the Dickson Quality Index has not confirmed the quality of seedlings in these treatments. We also observed that the doses of biochar (20 and 30%) when added separately to the Latosol, are not efficient for the growth improvement of the seedlings. Based on the present results, we validate the hypothesis that substrates formed with a mixture of cattle manure and biochar are effective to improve the production of seedlings of M. pubescens.

A busca por cultivares produtivas, adaptadas ao local de cultivo e com características tecnológicas desejáveis é uma constante. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento de genótipos de feijão, do grupo comercial Carioca, quanto a características agronômicas e tecnológicas. Vinte e nove genótipos foram cultivados na época das águas, nos anos de 2001 e 2002, e distribuídos em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Sobressaíram-se os genótipos IAC-Carioca, FT-Bonito, Rudá, Porto Real, CNFC 8008, CNFC 8011, CNFC 8012, CNFC 8013 e CNFC 8156 com produtividade de grãos acima da média obtida. Destacaram-se com produtividade média de grãos acima de 3.000 kg ha-1 e tempo de cozimento médio em torno de 20 minutos, os genótipos IAC-Carioca, CNFC 8012 e CNFC 8156.

Cultivars with high yield, adaptability and desirable technological characteristics are a must. The objective of this work was to evaluate agronomic and technologic characters of common bean genotypes from carioca commercial group. Genotypes were cultivated in water growing season, in 2001 and 2002. The experimental design was by randomized blocks with 29 genotypes and four replications. The IAC-Carioca, FT-Bonito, Rudá, Porto Real, CNFC 8008, CNFC 8011, CNFC 8012, CNFC 8013 and CNFC 8156 genotypes yielded above the average. The genotypes IAC-Carioca, CNFC 8012 and CNFC 8156 presented the best results with 3,000 kg ha-1 and 20 minutes cooking time.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar o efeito do número de plantas por parcela na avaliação de famílias de meios-irmãos de milho. Para isso, 25 famílias da população CMS-39 foram avaliadas utilizando um látice 5 x 5 com duas repetições. Cada parcela era constituída por três linhas com 10 m de comprimento. Cada parcela foi subdividida em estratos de 1 m com cinco plantas; associando os estratos contíguos, foi possível obter número de plantas por parcela, que variou de 5 a 135. Utilizando esses diferentes tamanhos de parcelas, foram realizadas 270 análises de variância quanto ao caráter peso da espiga despalhada. A partir dessas análises, foram estimados os parâmetros genéticos e fenotípicos com os seus respectivos erros e simulando o ganho esperado com a seleção. Constatou-se que quanto maior o número de plantas, mais precisos foram os experimentos; as parcelas contendo o mesmo número de plantas, porém distribuídos em duas ou três linhas, propiciam maior precisão experimental; o ganho esperado com a seleção decresce com o aumento do número de plantas utilizadas, por parcela.

This work had the aim to verify the effect of the number of plants per plot in the evaluation of half-sib families. For that, 25 half-sib families of CMS-39 were evaluated with the experimental design being a simple lattice, 5 x 5, with two replications. Each plot was constituted by three lines with 10 m of length. Each plot was subdivided in sub-plots with five plants, being discarded extremities. Associating the contiguous sub-plots it was possible to simulate 270 variance analyses, with the number of plants per plot varying from 5 to 135. Genetic and phenotypic parameters were estimated with their respective errors. Expected selection response yield was also simulated for each sample size. In this simulation, it was verified that the number of plants per plot affected experimental precision. As larger was the number of plants, more accurate were the experiments; plots with the same number of plants, even so distributed in two or three lines, provide greater experimental precision. The selection expected response decreases with the increase in the number of plants per plot.
